Community Guidelines
GreenerTides strives to be the most trusted and transparent place for employees to research companies and find employers that align with their values and beliefs. Our Community Guidelines and moderation policies take into consideration applicable laws in the different international markets in which GreenerTides operates.
- Privacy & Freedom of Expression: We uphold the values of anonymity and freedom of expression—every individual possesses the right to express their viewpoint and be acknowledged without concerns of retaliation, censorship, or undesired scrutiny.
- Content Editing Policy: We do not make any edits or modifications to the content submitted on our services.
- Inclusivity of Positive and Negative Feedback: We do not erase content solely based on its positivity or negativity.
- Referencing and/or naming Leaders: We permit content that mentions high-ranking individuals within an organisation who wield substantial influence over its policies, actions, and the working environment, provided the content specifically addresses their workplace conduct or actions. This category encompasses those who hold prominent public roles within the organisation (such as C-Suite members, Executive Directors, Presidents, Owners, Founders, etc.). We believe this information is generally representative of an organisation’s decision making and culture, and can be valuable for prospective job seekers. Content containing unfavourable remarks about identifiable individuals beyond this group, however, is not permissible.
- Content Oversight: Through collaborative efforts within our community, we engage in proactive content moderation and take measures to suspend users who disregard our Community Guidelines or the professional character of our platform.
- GreenerTides Is Neutral: GreenerTides is a neutral platform for the content submitted by our users on factual or opinion-based disputes between our users and their present or past employers. The intricacies of the situations and the veracity of claims remain beyond our knowledge. Consequently, our moderation efforts are focused solely on adhering to these Guidelines. We maintain impartiality in all instances of conflict, abstaining from adopting positions and refraining from assuming the role of factual arbitrator when evaluating content.
- Uniform Review Criteria: We uphold a consistent review standard for all content, regardless of whether it pertains to a GreenerTides’ client or not.
- Account Verification Process: We require email verification from a permanent, active email address for each user submitting content. In specific scenarios, we may also implement either 1) the necessity for users to authenticate their accounts using their employer email addresses, or 2) attempt to verify their employment history or status through various methods, including third-party integrations or services.
- Moderation: We moderate content by conducting a comprehensive review to ascertain its compliance with our guidelines.
- Counteracting Abuse and Manipulation: We review content for instances of potential abuse and manipulation. Potential instances of abuse will be determined by these guidelines and at our discretion.
Guidelines
Content that exhibits aggression, offensiveness, or deliberate malicious intent towards an individual or group is not acceptable:
- Targeted Malice: Engaging in targeted malice with the intention to demean or degrade individuals or groups is strictly prohibited.
- Unwanted Sexual Material: Sending or presenting unwanted sexual content or objectifying someone without consent is not allowed.
- Derogatory Language: Use of insults or profanity directed at others is prohibited. We closely monitor the repetitive use of such language, particularly when the intention is to harass or intimidate. It's important to note that certain terms may be offensive to some individuals, though not every instance may warrant action.
- Hateful Expression: Directly attacking others or groups based on attributes such as race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious beliefs, age, disability, or severe illnesses is not permitted.
- Safety: If you identify content that you think indicates a member of the community is a potential danger to themselves or others, please flag it.
- Violent Threats: Threatening to inflict physical harm on others, including statements about killing, torturing, sexually assaulting, or causing harm to individuals or their property, is not permitted.
- Harmful Intentions: Avoid expressing desires or hopes for harm, including wishing for harm, illnesses, tragedies, or any form of physical detriment. This encompasses wishing for the death of others, their suffering from illnesses, unfortunate incidents, or other harmful outcomes.
- Encouragement of Violence: Abstain from inciting, advocating, or encouraging others to engage in acts of violence or harm. This includes (but is not limited to) urging others to hurt themselves or instigating actions that fall under categories like atrocity crimes, including crimes against humanity, war crimes, or genocide. This prohibition also covers the use of coded language (referred to as "dog whistles") that indirectly promote violence.
- Glorification of Violence: It is not acceptable to glorify, commend, or celebrate violent acts where harm was inflicted. This includes expressing gratitude for someone's experience of physical harm or extolling violent groups. The prohibition also extends to glorifying cruelty or abuse towards animals.
- Offensive Language and Stereotypes: Do not use slurs or stereotypes that target specific groups of people. Slurs are derogatory terms used to attack particular communities. Stereotypes are baseless assumptions about certain groups of people that are offensive.
- Misinformation: Do not post misinformation on our services.
- Trolling: Do not post offensive statements intended to disrupt conversations or manipulate discussions.
- Privacy Protection: Do not post content that reveals your identity. Do not reveal the identity of another user or non-executive in a way that is unwanted or unwarranted. Instigating harassment, for example, by revealing someone’s personal or confidential information, is not allowed.
- Identity Impersonation: Do not intentionally pretend to be another person, whether they are alive or dead, on our platform.

Employer Pages & Reviews
In addition to our overall guidelines detailed above, Employer pages and reviews have the following additional guidelines:
Review-Specific Guidelines
GreenerTides’ aim is to help job seekers find companies that align with their values and beliefs. Follow these guidelines to ensure everyone can benefit from a helpful, balanced, and truthful community.
- Truthful and Opinion-based: Your review should be authentic, reflecting your genuine personal opinions and experiences related to your present or past employer's sustainability commitments, practices, policies, and/or actions. We maintain a neutral stance in factual disagreements, therefore, we anticipate your responsibility in upholding the statements you express within your content.
- One Review, Per Employer, Per Year: Each person is permitted to submit one review for each employer per year. In the event that a user revises a review within a year, the prior review will be archived, and the more recent one will be displayed. Your content should pertain to roles you've occupied over the past five years to ensure its relevance for contemporary job seekers.
- Balanced is advised: We urge you to consider an employer's sustainability from multiple angles and to encompass both positive and negative aspects in your review, aiming to offer a well-rounded perspective. Although not obligatory, we believe that balanced reviews contribute to an enhanced community experience.
- Extreme Language: We understand sustainability can get emotionally charged, but we don't approve reviews that include certain profanities, threats of violence, or discriminatory language targeted at an individual or group. Reviews mentioning race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, etc., might be permitted if they pertain to describing workplace circumstances. Broad conversations about workplace misconduct, including discussions about illegal activities, discrimination, and sexual harassment, are generally acceptable.
- Original Content Essential: All reviews must be unique and not primarily composed of significant quotes or excerpts from external sources, such as websites, email communications, other reviews, and more.
- Professionally Irrelevant or Spam: We also reject content that does not relate to an employer or is otherwise not relevant to understanding sustainability commitments, practices, policies, or actions.
- Quality of Content: Your writing doesn't have to be perfect, but it should be comprehensible. We reject reviews for excessive capitalisation or filler words/characters. Keep in mind that your review gains credibility through proper grammar, accurate spelling, and appropriate punctuation.
- Privacy Protection: In order to ensure privacy, we prohibit the inclusion of personal identification or contact details (for yourself or others) within your reviews.
- Link Policy: Reviews will not be permitted if they contain advertising, self-promotion, or unrelated links.
Photos
Do not post:
- Screenshots: Screenshots (images from video conferences are permissible, as long as they do not disclose employee names, locations, images of minors, or any content that we consider inappropriate according to our judgment).
- Marketing Material and Logos: Photos of marketing material, logos, or website content.
- Individual Portraits: Portraits of specific individuals.
- Healthcare Setting Photos: Images of patients within a healthcare context.
- Irrelevant Photos: Photos that do not pertain to the work environment.
- Workplace Violations: Pictures that expose workplace violations.
- Copyrighted Images: Photos covered by copyright that you do not possess rights to.
Employer Response Guidelines
GreenerTides is a platform for fair exchange. As such, employers may respond to reviews on GreenerTides. Employer responses are also moderated using the Guidelines. We do allow employers to include their contact information and web links (e.g. links to internal company policies, ethics/compliance hotline sites, etc.)
- Incentivised or coerced content: Content will be removed if we possess evidence indicating that users were incentivised or coerced to submit it.
- Right to respond: We believe each employer has the right to respond to a review left by a user. Furthermore, the employer is granted the final response on a review.
- How GreenerTides defines workers and employers: GreenerTides uses the term ‘worker’ to describe any individual who has delivered work or a product for an organisation and/or is a significant part of an employer’s value chain. These workers can be full-time, part-time, contractors, freelancers, independent, 1099, interns, or similar. In addition, GreenerTides uses the term ‘employer’ to describe the entity that employs workers and/or provides the opportunity for workers to make a living. We may also use the term ‘employer’ to describe an official organisation representative; this may be someone in HR or recruiting, marketing, or a member of the senior leadership team.
- Exhibit politeness and professionalism.
- Do not mention the identity of the presumed review author.
- Do not threaten the writer of a review with legal or other punitive damage.
- Note that GreenerTides moderates employer responses after they have posted. Consequently, if a response fails to conform to the Guidelines, it might be displayed briefly prior to removal. (Notification will be sent via email in the event of response removal.)
Important Information
We love it when organisations encourage their employees to share honest reviews on GreenerTides, but do not offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Positive reviews will be taken down if we identify proof of employee compensation or pressure to submit reviews. Upholding the value of anonymity, GreenerTides prohibits employers from requesting workers to verify their posts on the platform.
