A guide to leaving reviews

GreenerTides provides a space for employees to champion honest sustainability efforts. This is done by leaving a review about the company’s sustainability commitments, approach, or policies.

Below is a guide to leaving reviews. This is intended as a guide only and there may be other aspects of a company’s sustainability you wish to review. We welcome this.

Reviewing a company's environmental sustainability and/or human sustainability policies and/or initiatives

When leaving a review about a company's sustainability policies and initiatives, consider any of the following:

  1. Environmental sustainability:
    • The company's efforts to reduce its environmental impact. This might include energy efficiency measures, waste reduction strategies, and use of renewable resources.
    • The company's commitment to environmental conservation. This might include initiatives related to biodiversity protection, pollution prevention, and sustainable sourcing practices.
    • Specific environmental programs or projects implemented by the company and their effectiveness in promoting sustainability.
  2. Human sustainability:
    • The company's approach to promoting employee well-being and ethical labour practices.
    • The company's efforts to support employee development, health and wellness initiatives, and work-life balance.
    • The company's engagement with local communities, philanthropic activities, and social impact initiatives aimed at improving human welfare.
Reviewing a company dedicated to human or environmental sustainability

When reviewing a company whose entire reason for being revolves around sustainability, consider any of the following:

  1. Mission alignment:
    • Let us know the company's mission and values, and how they align with principles of environmental or human sustainability.
    • The company's overarching goals, and how they are related to sustainability and their impact on society and the environment.
  2. Impact assessment:
    • Let us know the company's effectiveness in achieving its sustainability objectives and the tangible outcomes of its initiatives.
    • The company's influence within its industry or sector and its role as a leader or innovator in sustainability practices.
Reviewing a company that doesn't have any commitments to sustainability or it might do and you don't know about it

When leaving a review for a company with unclear or non-existent sustainability commitments, you can:

  1. Share observations:
    • Provide insights into the company's practices and behaviours related to sustainability, based on your experiences as an employee.
    • Mention any specific actions or initiatives undertaken by the company that may indicate a commitment or lack thereof to sustainability.
  2. Express expectations:
    • Express your expectations or hopes for the company to prioritise sustainability in its operations and decision-making processes.
    • Encourage the company to become more transparent about its sustainability efforts and to consider adopting meaningful sustainability practices.

The use of the word “company”

For the sake of simplicity, we use the word company to refer to all of the following: companies, non-profit organisations, public bodies and agencies, and trade associations and coalitions. For example, your “company” might be a public entity focused on driving sustainability policy, or it could be an industry association developing industry-wide sustainability standards. You can leave a review about all of these on GreenerTides.
